In the Press Last Week: Goliath Opts to Prolong the Battle with David

On 30 September 2026, the Milan-based daily Il Giorno reported on a dispute pitting David against Goliath in the field of intellectual property, one likely to have repercussions well beyond the parties involved.

Mr Tresoldi is represented by the law firm FPB Legal, and in particular by Lavinia Savini, who has already handled a comparable dispute: the Bolognese illustrator Cristina Cati obtained compensation for the unauthorised reproduction of her work by the Swedish giant Ikea, which had refused to settle.

The case has two protagonists. On one side stands the David of this story: Ivan Tresoldi, a Milanese artist who, since the 2000s, has shown his work in exhibitions and, above all, directly on the streets, around the world. A contemporary poet, also known as the ‘street poet’, he has become well known for the verses he displays in urban spaces. On the other side stands Goliath, embodied by Fabriano, Europe’s oldest paper mill, with a history stretching back more than 760 years, now owned by Fedrigoni S.p.A..

The two parties parted ways after five years of collaboration. Mr Tresoldi has brought a claim, alleging that the paper mill continued to reproduce his creations without his consent, thereby infringing the copyright in works La Grande Pagina Bianca and Poesia persa l’onda. a settlement, which would have spared both parties lengthy and costly litigation. Fabriano, has shown no willingness to reach a settlement.

The dispute between the artist and the multinational is expected to conclude at first instance in late 2027.
